Last year, when Baylor qualified for a bowl game, fans rushed the field and celebrated with the team. A few hours later, eschewing the Boise State on-field cliché, quarterback Robert Griffin III serenaded his girlfriend before proposing.

This time around, expect a more modest celebration.

"I obviously can’t propose to anybody, so it’s all about football," Griffin said.

Well, there's that. There's also the fact that last season it had been 16 years since Baylor had been to a bowl game. This year, it's been about, oh, 11 months.

"As a school like we are, when you get bowl eligible after a long, long drought, you don’t want to be a one-and-done team when it comes to bowl game," Griffin said. "Getting that sixth win has obviously been one of our goals. It’s not all we want, but it’s definitely part of the process of going where we want to."

There's also the matter of qualifying for the postseason on the road this time around. Baylor will get its first chance on Saturday against Kansas. The Bears, 5-3, have yet to win a game away from Floyd Casey Stadium.

"Okie State and A&M were two games that got away from us," Griffin said. "A game you lose by one point on the road (Kansas State) is tough to swallow, but we have protected our house, but now we have to go prove it on the road, that we deserve all the rankings and hype we get, so no matter who that opponent is, Big 12 competition is Big 12 competition."

With that, Griffin and the Bears aren't taking the Jayhawks, losers of 20 of their last 21 Big 12 Conference games, lightly.

"Kansas is not a cupcake game. They’ve played well at home. They were up by 20 on Tech and played well against Oklahoma," Griffin said. "We know we’re going to have to go in there and take it, because they’re not going to give it to us."

The responsibility for maintaining that focus lies with the team's leaders.

"As long as we focus on us and do what we’re supposed to do and take care of business like we know how to take care of business, we can beat anybody we go up against," Griffin said. "It’s to that point now, because it’s not a matter of talent. It’s not a metter of speed or strength. We’ve got some freaks on this team, we just have to go out and utilize them."
