Our official list of the Big 12's top 25 players entering the 2012 season marches on. Here's more on my criteria for who makes it, who doesn't and who lands where.
The official list is locked away in a vault in an undisclosed location, but we'll be revealing one player a day leading up to the season.
Next up on the list:
No. 23: Terrance Williams, WR, Baylor
2011 numbers: Caught 59 passes for 957 yards and 11 touchdowns.
Most recent ranking: Williams was unranked in our postseason list of the Big 12's top 25 players.
Making the case for Williams: You probably best know Williams as the back half of Robert Griffin III's Heisman moment, a game-winning touchdown pass against Oklahoma. Trust me on this one: He's much, much more. It's easy to be overshadowed when your teammate is streaking by defenders and leading the Big 12 in receiving with more than 1,600 yards like Kendall Wright did.
Still, Williams was freakishly productive and a big-play threat, too, even though he was only Baylor's second option. No Big 12 receiver who'll play both 2011 and 2012 in the league had more receiving yards than Williams, and now that he's the featured target for new QB Nick Florence, it's hard to imagine he won't top 1,000 yards this season, barring injury.
The 6-foot-3, 205-pound target checks in at No. 1 in Mel Kiper's list of the top draft-eligible receivers, which doesn't earn him much on this list, but does prove that he's much more than just a product of RG3-mania at Baylor last season. He's one of the Big 12's top receivers, and may state his case as the league's best on this list in the postseason.
The rest of the list:
No. 25: Justin Gilbert, CB/KR, Oklahoma State
No. 24: Ben Habern, C, Oklahoma
