New Balance Player of the Day: Aug. 10

New Balance Baseball

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- Trent Shelton was one of four Oakland A’s pitchers who shut down the White Sox on Friday in the second to last game of the 2012 Area Code Baseball Games.

Oakland beat Chicago 9-2 while limiting the Sox to only four hits over seven innings (both teams agreed to play an extra inning to roll out more pitchers).

Shelton started the game and pitched two perfect innings, inducing five of the six batters he faced to ground out. He also had a perfect inning in his previous Area Code outing.

A 6-foot-4, 195-pound lefty from Campolindo (Moraga, Calif.), Shelton went 9-1 this spring with a 1.04 ERA and 66 strikeouts in 86 innings. He has committed to Oregon State.
