The coaching carousel always offers a surprise or two, but this year, it's increasingly likely the supply of good candidates far outweighs the demand for them.
After 11 weeks, Florida State is the only open Tier 1 job, and USC is the only other expected to open (via firing, at least). No movement is expected in the Big 12. Rutgers could be the only Big Ten vacancy, and the ACC should be quiet other than FSU. The SEC will have at least one coaching vacancy, in Arkansas, but the real shake-up likely won't be until 2020.
Still, the smart fans want to know the hot names on lists for athletic directors, search firms and university presidents. After talking to industry sources all season, I've identified the top 4-5 candidates in four categories: Power 5 coaches who can move to bigger Power 5 jobs; Group of 5 head coaches who can move up to the Power 5; Power 5 coordinators who can become FBS head coaches; and the ever-popular retreads (former Power 5 head coaches who come back).
These are coaches I could see in the mix for multiple Power 5 jobs or notable Group of 5 positions. (Note: Minnesota's P.J. Fleck is off the board after his recent contract extension.)

Power 5 coaches
Matt Campbell, Iowa State: Despite a somewhat disappointing 5-4 season, Campbell remains very much in demand for top college vacancies, and possibly for some NFL ones. He turns 40 on Nov. 29 but presents as a very experienced coach with a clear vision for scheme, recruiting and player development. The Ohio native likely would fit best at a premier Big Ten program (or Notre Dame), but could gain consideration for Tier 1 jobs elsewhere.
