Safety Josh Harvey-Clemons has been dismissed from Georgia for a violation of team rules, coach Mark Richt announced Tuesday.
Harvey-Clemons, who would have been a junior this fall, played in 25 career games with 11 starts. He finished the 2013 season ranking third on the team with 66 total tackles.
He also had one interception, broke up five passes, recovered three fumbles and forced two fumbles.
A top recruit in 2012, Harvey-Clemons was already suspended for the first three games of the 2014 season as a continuation of his suspension for an undisclosed violation of team rules that forced him to miss Georgia's 24-19 loss to Nebraska in last season's TaxSlayer.com Gator Bowl.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported in January that Harvey-Clemons' suspension stemmed from violating the university's drug-use policy for the second time.
Harvey-Clemons also missed the 2013 season opener against Clemson -- a game the Bulldogs lost -- for violating the school's drug-use policy after admitting to smoking marijuana in his dorm room last spring.
After an up-and-down freshman year, Harvey-Clemons made strides on Georgia's defense at both strong safety and the star position.
However, he was probably best known last fall for deflecting a Nick Marshall pass against Auburn into the hands of wide receiver Ricardo Louis that resulted in a 73-yard, game-winning touchdown pass for the Tigers with 25 seconds remaining.
Losing Harvey-Clemons leaves the Bulldogs with a hole in a secondary that ranked ninth in the SEC in pass defense last season and surrendered 18 passing touchdowns with just seven interceptions.
