ARLINGTON, Texas -- Baylor quarterback Bryce Petty might have left Saturday's game with a concussion, but he left no doubt as to his availability for next week's showdown against No. 12 Kansas State.
"Can I cuss on here?" Petty said when asked if there were any way he'd miss the final home game of his college career. "Hell no. I'm going to play, no doubt. I'll pass all the tests."
Petty left Saturday's game midway through the third quarter with what Baylor officials called a "mild concussion" after he took a high hit from Texas Tech linebacker Sam Eguavoen, who was penalized for a personal foul.
Seth Russell replaced Petty at quarterback, and the No. 7 Bears held on to defeat the Red Raiders 48-46.
Petty met with reporters afterward and said he sat out the remainder of the game as a "precautionary" measure.
"I feel good," Petty said. "It was a little muddy there on the sideline. But everything is fine. I'm OK. Just a headache here or there. Nothing crazy."
After taking the hit, Petty remained down for several minutes before getting up and walking slowly to the sideline, and then going to the locker room. He was back on the sideline before the end of the quarter. He was still wearing his jersey, but no longer with shoulder pads or helmet.
Baylor coach Art Briles said it would be three or four days before the Bears would know if Petty would be cleared to play against K-State.
"We'll go through the process and see what happens," Briles said.
Baylor also lost running back Devin Chafin due to a dislocated elbow. Chafin's three carries came on consecutive plays late in the first quarter.
Chafin and Shock Linwood were both coming off 100-yard rushing games last week against Oklahoma State. Both also had 100 yards against Texas Tech last year.
