Derrick Henry sets SEC mark for single-season rushing TDs

ARLINGTON, Texas -- Alabama running back Derrick Henry broke the SEC record shared by Florida's Tim Tebow and Auburn's Tre Mason for single-season rushing touchdowns with a 1-yard leap into the end zone Thursday in the second quarter of the Goodyear Cotton Bowl Classic against Michigan State.

It was Henry's 24th rushing touchdown of the season. He scored another in the fourth quarter of Alabama's convincing 38-0 win in the College Football Playoff semifinal.

Henry, who won the 2015 Heisman Trophy, also owns the SEC record for consecutive games with a rushing touchdown (19) and single-season rushing yards (2,061). He is the first SEC running back with more than 2,000 rushing yards in a season after recording 75 against Michigan State.

The junior from Yulee, Florida, said he grew up idolizing Tebow, who played high school football at nearby Allen D. Nease High in Ponte Verde Beach, Florida.
