Vols DB gets probation for striking officer

Tennessee defensive back Kenneth George has been sentenced to probation after pleading guilty over a March incident in which he struck a Miami Beach police officer.

George pleaded guilty Monday to battery of a police officer, a felony, and resisting an officer without violence, a misdemeanor. No action was taken on two other charges. He was given one year of probation and ordered to pay a $1,125 fine.

The officer involved agreed with George's sentencing, a spokesperson for the Miami-Dade state attorney's office told the Knoxville News Sentinel.

George had been suspended from the Volunteers following the arrest. He was reinstated to the team in July.

A redshirt junior from Lafayette, Louisiana, George played four games and made three tackles last season.
