Last season Marqise Lee surprised the college football world by going from finishing second on his own team in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns to winning the Biletnikoff Award and landing a spot on the 2012 ESPN All-American team.
Lee wasn't the only player to make the jump from productive understudy to All-American, as Stanford tight end Zach Ertz and Oregon running back Kenjon Barner both achieved a similar feat from 2011 to 2012.
So which players have the best chance of making that type of leap in the upcoming college football campaign? Here are six of the strongest candidates.
Lache Seastrunk, RB, Baylor Bears
Seastrunk had only 29 rushing attempts through the end of October last season, but by season's end he might have been the best running back in college football. According to ESPN Stats & Information, Seastrunk gained 831 rushing yards from November through the conclusion of the bowls, a total that was surpassed by only one back (Arizona's Ka'Deem Carey).
