SuperSport United have pulled off some of a coup with the acquisition of sought-after Zimbabwe international Evans Rusike from Maritzburg United on a three-year deal.

The 27-year-old forward has been on the radar of both Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates in recent times, but they have balked at Maritzburg's asking price, with the KwaZulu-Natal club clearly loathe to sell.

But with money in the bank from their sale of Jeremy Brockie to Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport have been able to twist their arm and signed a player with the potential to be a real hit at the club.

He is different to Brockie in that pace is a major asset, but he also has good finishing ability and could be a good foil for the likes of Bradley Grobler and compatriot Kingston Nkhatha, who has been back in favour in recent weeks.

"SuperSport is a great club," Rusike said in a media release from his new team.

"They have achieved a lot in their short history, especially in the cups. They have also shown that they can get players to Europe and it remains my dream to play in Europe.

"I know I have to prove myself to the coach and management of SuperSport and I will give my best to boost the team into the top eight this season."

SuperSport CEO Stan Matthews says the club have long been in pursuit of forward.

"We have been watching Evans with great interest over the last few years at Maritzburg. He has all the makings of a great striker with blistering pace, great skill and he can finish in the box," Matthews said.

"We are thrilled to announce his signing and look forward to him making a meaningful contribution for us over the next few years."

Rusike scored 21 goals in 71 starts for Maritzburg after joining them ahead of the 2014/15 Premier Soccer League season.
