The Indian women's hockey team suffered a 1-0 loss against Spain in their FIH Pro League match at the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday.

Salima Tete and co. were hoping to bounce back after a 3-4 loss against the same opponents a day earlier but their performance was not enough to script a win.

It was Marta Segu's moment of brilliance in the final quarter which ensured Spain's fourth win on a trot. Segu covered more than half the ground from the left as she entered the circle and came with a thundering reverse hit that beat Savita Punia, one of the best goalkeepers in the world. India's defender Sushila Chanu couldn't keep up with Segu's run, allowing her to take the shot, which was low and went through Savita's legs.

Even before the goal, Spain were the better team. They were better on the ball and created good chances, especially the penalty corners but failed to break the deadlock. After scoring the goal, Spain's defence was solid as they closed out a deserving win.

India head coach Harender Singh has his task cut out. While in their previous match, it was the defensive mishaps that cost the match and on Wednesday, it was their attack that proved ineffective.

India will next take on Germany in back-to-back matches starting from Friday.
