TOP STORY: Gavi nears new contract at Barca
Gavi could sign his Barcelona contract extension as soon as Thursday, according to Diario Sport, and it will include a release clause of €1 billion.
Sources told ESPN in June that Barca had been putting in "a big financial effort" to secure the long-term future of the 18-year-old midfielder, to keep him with the Blaugrana through at least 2026.
Liverpool and Bayern Munich had been linked with the Spain international, whose current deal ends next summer and contains a €50m release clause, but Gavi is keen to stay at Camp Nou.
Barca want everything tied up before Gavi heads off on international duty with Spain. Thursday is the only free day between travelling back from the Champions League match against Bayern and Elche's visit to Camp Nou on Saturday.
Gavi would be able to discuss a free transfer to another club outside Spain if Barca haven't agreed a new contract before Jan. 1.

21.49 BST: Fabrizio Romano has reported that Paris Saint-Germain's Lionel Messi will not make a decision on his future until after the World Cup. PSG are keen to offer the Argentine a new contract, with his current deal ending in the summer of 2023, while Barcelona would like to see their former talisman return, but he will not proceed with either option until 2023.
21.17 BST: Marca have reported that Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has turned down Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal's two-year offer worth €242m. This would have made the Portugal international the highest paid footballer in the world, but his plan is to stay with the Red Devils or at least play at the highest level possible for the foreseeable future.
21.00 BST: Le Parisien have reported that Paris Saint-Germain Feminines are set to follow up the loan signing of Yang Lina by signing Manchester United Women's Jackie Groenen. Negotiations have lasted weeks and an agreement for the Netherlands international is now very close to being reached, with Groenen already in France.
20.30 BST: Sport 1 have added to the conversation around Max Kruse's future, stating that the most likely outcome is for his Wolfsburg contract to be terminated in mid-November when the Bundesliga enters its break ahead of the World Cup.
Niko Kovac has said the German won't play for Wolfsburg again, with Kruse only taking part in some of their training while continuing to be linked with a possible future move to Inter Miami.
20.02 BST: Brighton & Hove Albion will step up their search for Graham Potter's replacement after the Englishman moved to Chelsea, reports The Guardian, who add that the Seagulls' shortlist includes Bodo/Glimt's Kjetil Knutsen and Shakhtar Donetsk's Roberto De Zerbi. There have already been meetings within Brighton this week regarding the situation, with Lens' Franck Haise also understood to be under consideration.
19.34 BST: It has previously been reported that Roma could look to the free agent market in order to sign a centre-back, but Calciomercato have now gone against that view by suggesting Sporting Director Tiago Pinto is not convinced by the options. Instead, Roma and Jose Mourinho will wait until January, when they will aim to loan in a player who is already in form.
19.05 BST: Paris Saint-Germain Feminines have officially announced the loan signing of Shanghai Shengli midfielder Yang Lina until June 2023. The China international has been brought in after the club saw midfield departures in this window, joining compatriot Li Mengwen at PSG on a temporary basis.
18.35 BST: Using their official channels, Freiburg have confirmed that goalkeeper Mark Flekken has extended his contract with the Bundesliga club. They have not disclosed the contract details of the Netherlands international, who first joined the club in 2018.
17.45 BST: Free agent Pajtim Kasami, the former Fulham and Nottingham Forest man who last represented FC Basel, is holding negotiations with Olympiacos ahead of a possible return to the Greek club, reports Fabrizio Romano. The journalist adds that suggestions of Tiemoue Bakayoko moving to Olympiacos before joining Forest in January are wide of the mark.
17.03 BST: As confirmed on Everton's official channels, the Toffees have completed the signing of Eldin Jakupovic on a short-term contract, with the goalkeeper previously having been a free agent since leaving Leicester City in the summer. They have brought in the Switzerland international following injuries sustained by Jordan Pickford and Andy Lonergan.
16.25 BST: Bayern Munich won't be looking for a new manager soon, will they?
15.50 BST: Watford goalkeeper Daniel Bachmann says he turned down a move to Manchester United this summer.
Bachmann, 28, was the subject of interest from Erik ten Hag's side as they looked to recruit a backup to David de Gea following the loan exit of Dean Henderson to Nottingham Forest.
Newcastle's Martin Dubravka was eventually signed on loan, with an option to sign permanently next summer, but Austria international Bachmann says that he was under consideration.
"There have been talks with Manchester United, that's no secret," he told LAOLA1. "Of course it's great to be associated with such a club. It was also a serious story. In the end, however, I'm still a Watford player and I'm very happy about it because I play here regularly, bring in my performances and hopefully can play a role in the national team again.
"If I had gone to Man United it would have been in the No. 2 position. That's quite clear because in David de Gea they have a top goalkeeper who has been one of the best, if not the best, goalkeeper in the Premier League over the last 10 years.
"Of course, that doesn't mean I would never have played if I went there. One does not exclude the other, because every goalkeeper can be replaced.
"I would not have gone to Manchester United just to sit on the bench. I would have come to training every day and tried to convince the coach to let me play. That's very clear. Still, I'm glad it turned out the way it did for me. I just want to play football, that's what I live for."
15.10 BST: Arsenal have signed winger Gio Queiroz from Barcelona on a permanent deal and sent her on loan to Women's Super League side Everton.
Queiroz, 19, spent last season on loan at Levante, scoring 11 goals in 31 appearances. The Brazil international won the Copa America in 2022 -- alongside Arsenal centre-back Rafaelle Souza -- and said she is happy with her move..
"I'm very excited. I know Arsenal is a great club -- it's one of the best clubs in Europe," she told the club website. "All of the players here are very competitive and have a lot of experience, so I'm excited to learn from them and develop. Arsenal is a club that belongs at the top and with hard work we can make sure we are there."
Head coach Jonas Eidevall added: "We're delighted to have completed this transfer. Gio is an exciting prospect and we believe she has great potential. We will closely monitor her development this season and look forward to watching her progress."
14.58 BST: Borussia Dortmund face Manchester City in the Champions League this week and Ilkay Gundogan says he is in no rush to decide his next move despite entering the last year of his contract at City.
"I'm very happy [here] I was throughout all my time at the club but obviously it's football and in some ways it's also a business," he told a news conference. "We will see what will happen at the end of the season but I just try to contribute to the team in the best way possible and then we will see what happens next season."
14.19 BST: Everton are ready to make a move for Ferencvaros winger Adama Traore in January, according to Calciomercato.
Traore, 27, who is not to be confused with the Wolves winger of the same name, has scored 12 goals in 14 games for the Turkish club this season.
The Mali international has caught the eye of Everton boss Frank Lampard with his performances and could be a target once the window opens again.
13.53 BST: Carlo Ancelotti has laughed off reports that Kylian Mbappe could leave Paris Saint-Germain sooner than expected, saying Real Madrid's focus is on their in-form strike duo Vinicius Junior and Rodrygo.
On Tuesday the newspaper L'Equipe reported in a front page story that Mbappe's PSG contract -- signed in May when he snubbed a move to Madrid -- is a two-year deal until 2024, rather than 2025, with the third year being an option which can be exercised by the France international.
It leaves open the possibility of another transfer saga involving Mbappe next summer, when the forward would have just one guaranteed year left on his contract in Paris.
"I give up! I give up with that question!" Ancelotti said in a news conference on Tuesday, laughing when asked if Madrid's doors were still open to Mbappe. "To be honest, we're excited about the forwards we have, above all the youngsters. Karim [Benzema] excites us a lot, but when a young player comes in, it's even more exciting.
"What Vinicius and Rodrygo are doing is very exciting. We aren't thinking about anyone else right now, there's no doubt. We're focused and so are the players."
12.30 BST: Is Gio Reyna's club future at Dortmund in doubt?
11.04 BST: The standoff between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid over the future of Antoine Griezmann is likely to be resolved during the next international break, L'Equipe reports.
Atletico have been refusing to start Griezmann this season -- with manager Diego Simeone introducing him after an hour has been played in every game so far -- as they try to avoid activating a clause in the forward's two-year loan deal which would see them pay Barca €40m to make the move permanent if he plays over 45 minutes in 50% of their games.
Barca had reportedly threatened to take legal action over the situation but according to L'Equipe the two clubs are now looking at reaching a compromise on a reduced fee of €25m.
10.25 BST: Jordi Cruyff says Barcelona's summer signings turned down bigger offers to move elsewhere because of the allure of playing for the Catalan club.
Barca signed eight players for the men's first team this summer, including spending over €150m to sign Robert Lewandowski, Raphinha and Jules Kounde.
Chelsea had a bid accepted from Leeds United for Raphinha and were also linked with Kounde and Lewandowski, who was reported to be a target for Paris Saint-Germain, among others, as well.
"Barcelona has a magnet, it is beautiful," Barca's sporting director said at an event on Monday. "You can see the pride in the eyes of the players when they get a chance to sign for Barcelona and that helped a lot, being able to compete with clubs with bigger budgets and better salaries.
"They wanted to sign for Barcelona and we are very grateful for these players because, believe me, they had better offers than us. And still they chose to follow their dream to be part of the history. When you see the eyes shining in these players you know you are in a special place."
09.53 BST: We could be in for another summer of speculation around the future of Kylian Mbappe as early as next year, after L'Equipe reported that the Paris Saint-Germain forward's contract runs until 2024, not 2025 as previously thought.
The saga surrounding Mbappe's potential free transfer to Real Madrid looked to have ended last May when PSG announced -- in a surprise U-turn -- that the France international had signed a new three-year deal with them.
However, according to L'Equipe, that contract is in fact a two-year agreement with an optional third year which can only be activated with the player's consent.
That means Mbappe would only have one guaranteed year left in Paris next summer, leaving PSG needing to convince him to commit once again or risk losing him on a free transfer in 2024.
09.26 BST: Raul de Tomas has joined Rayo Vallecano on a permanent transfer from Espanyol, the two LaLiga clubs announced on Tuesday.
The Spain international returns to Rayo, where he enjoyed a successful loan spell from Real Madrid from 2017-2019, and has signed a five-year contract with the Madrid outfit until June 2027.
Neither club gave any financial details, but local reports claim Rayo will pay Espanyol €8m plus €3m in add-ons for the 27-year-old's services. However, De Tomas will not be able to be registered until January 2023 as the transfer window is closed, so will be limited to only training with his new teammates for the next three-and-a-half months.
Despite being Espanyol's top scorer in the last two seasons, including netting 17 times in LaLiga last term, De Tomas has fallen out of favour at Espanyol due to non-sporting reasons.
He returns to Rayo, where he spent two years on loan between 2017-2019, scoring 38 goals across 66 appearances.
Negotiations to bring De Tomas back to the club were almost derailed last week when the Rayo president claimed he was headbutted by one of the player's agents during a meeting. However, those differences appear to have been overcome for now.
08.30 BST: Manchester United are set to trigger contract extensions for five of their players to prevent them leaving as free agents next summer, reports the Manchester Evening News.
Diogo Dalot, David De Gea, Fred, Marcus Rashford and Luke Shaw are all out of contract in June and could discuss a precontract agreement with clubs overseas from Jan. 1.
But the United hierarchy have 12-month extensions in their favour, which will automatically keep the five players at Old Trafford through to 2024 and protect their transfer value.
PAPER GOSSIP
- Sky Sports reports that Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham is set to move to the Premier League in the summer, with Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City all interested. There was plenty of talk around a €100m move for the 19-year-old during the summer, and it appears that is set to continue throughout the next year.
- With Konrad Laimer's RB Leipzig contract set to end in the summer, Fabrizio Romano reports that Bayern Munich are among the clubs hoping to sign the midfielder as a free agent. Bayern and Liverpool were seriously interested in the Austria international during the summer, but were unable to reach an agreement with Leipzig to take him to Anfield.
- Milan Skriniar was constantly linked with a move away from Inter Milan throughout the transfer window, but the Serie A giants are now hoping to make sure that the Slovakia centre-back stays beyond next summer, when his contract is due to expire, according to Calciomercato. Paris Saint-Germain were strongly linked with a €70m move and Inter could make Skriniar their second-highest earner in order to persuade him not to leave as a free agent.
- AC Milan have been in constant contact with Pierre Kalulu's agents since last May and will soon hold further contract renewal negotiations, reports Calciomercato, even though the French defender's deal doesn't end until 2025. Kalulu's salary could increase from €400,000 a year to €1.2m, although Kalulu wants that number to be around €1.5m. A meeting is already scheduled to take place before the end of September to come to an agreement, with the centre-back wanting to stay put.
