The Argentina international may have contracted the virus during a holiday trip to Ibiza this week. Leandro Paredes, his teammate who spent his holidays with him on the Spanish island, has also tested positive and is also in self isolation, sources said.
Mauro Icardi has also been reported to have caught the virus as he was also in Ibiza but it has not been confirmed yet to ESPN.
The club put out a statement on Monday evening to say that two players had indeed tested positive but were in good health and self-isolating. The names of Di Maria and Paredes were not announced by the club officially.
Sources say the club is concerned that Neymar, who was also in Ibiza on holidays with his son and father, could test positive as well. Keylor Navas and Ander Herrera were on holidays there and all the PSG players met up. Now that the players are back in Paris for training, the club is waiting to perform more tests.
PSG are due to play at Lens for their first Ligue 1 game of the season on Sept. 10, after their inaugural match against Metz at the Parc des Princes was postponed due to the Champions League final.
The Ligue 1 protocol for the coronavirus is very strict. If a club has four positive cases in their squad, their game is postponed. Such was the case for Marseille, whose clash with St Etienne on the opening day of the season had to be postponed.
