Salomon Kalou has said it is his dream to move to the United States and play Major League Soccer in the final years of his career, but hopes to sign a new contract with Hertha Berlin first.
Kalou, 31, has entered the final few months of his current deal at Hertha, the club he joined from Lille in 2014, but is yet to agree a new contract.
The 2012 Champions League winner with Chelsea has been a key player for Hertha in their pursuit of European football and he is enjoying his time in the Bundesliga.
"The club's good, we win games, the fans are fantastic, and I feel at home here," Kalou told Bild, adding that he is waiting for the right time to put pen to paper at Hertha, who hope he will stay for a few more years.
"When you win games, everyone's happy. It's always easy to discuss contracts then. Let's see how the next three games [against Hamburg, Borussia Dortmund and Cologne] will be, maybe it works out after that," Kalou added, and said that he wants to reach the 45-point mark first. Hertha currently have 37 points from 22 games, and rank fifth in the league, but even failure to qualify for a European competition would not stop him from signing a new deal if the team continues to grow.
"We've never played in Europe since I got here. It's about progress, about the annual improvement of the team. I see myself as part of the project," he said.
However, Kalou also has plans to move to the United States in the future.
"I love Major League Soccer, and my wish is to play there," Kalou said. "I enjoy this project, to chase European football with my teammates. Hertha has not played internationally for a long time. That would be outstanding for our fans.
"That's what I enjoy right now. As long as it stays that way, there is no reason to go somewhere else. China right now is not an issue for me."
