Liverpool reject Crystal Palace's £25m bid for Mamadou Sakho - source

Liverpool have rejected an offer worth £25 million from Crystal Palace for Mamadou Sakho, a source has told ESPN.

The bid was structured in the form of £22m up front and a further £3m in add-ons.

Liverpool dismissed the approach, believed to be Palace's third offer of the summer, because it does not meet their asking price for the out-of-favour Sakho, which is around the £30m mark, sources say.

The Merseyside club believe their valuation of the 27-year-old is justified based on his performances for Palace on loan in the second half of last season, and because of the demand for central defenders in the Premier League and in Europe.

The French centre-half signed for Palace on loan in January and impressed during his eight Premier League appearances as he helped the South London club avoid relegation from the Premier League.

Sakho appears to have no future at Liverpool after numerous disciplinary issues last season saw him banished from Jurgen Klopp's first-team setup.

He returned to Liverpool for preseason training as he recovered from a knee injury, but was not included in the matchday squad for any of the Reds' first five matches of the 2017-18 campaign.

Palace have yet to score a goal in three defeats to open the Premier League season.

Meanwhile, sources have told ESPN FC that Partizan Belgrade have an interest in taking Liverpool's Lazar Markovic on loan. However, the Serbian side are yet to approach Liverpool regarding any deal.

Markovic began his career his professional career at Partizan, making 65 first-team appearances before moving to Benfica in 2013.

The winger has played just 34 times for Liverpool since joining in the summer of 2014, finding himself out of favour under two managers -- Brendan Rodgers and Jurgen Klopp.

He spent latter half of last season on loan at Hull City under the tutelage of Marco Silva, now Watford manager, and has had other temporary spells at Fenerbahce and Sporting Lisbon.
