PSG goalkeeper Kevin Trapp turned down chance to leave in January

Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Kevin Trapp has revealed that he has rejected moves away from the French capital outfit this winter because he wants to remain at Parc des Princes and ultimately usurp Alphonse Areola as coach Unai Emery's first choice between the sticks.

The Germany international was deposed as PSG's starting shot-stopper by the French youth academy graduate at the start of the season, and despite some good individual performances in the domestic cups and a few Areola errors, Trapp remains largely a substitute.

Speaking with Sport1 in his homeland, the 27-year-old Trapp claimed that he has rejected the chance to leave Paris during the January transfer window, despite his desire to go to this summer's World Cup in Russia as part of the German squad.

"I have rejected several offers this winter because I want to continue to succeed here," said Trapp. "PSG is a big club with ambitions to match, which I also share.

"I have always said that my goal was to become the undisputed No. 1 here and play in the biggest games. I have also never hidden my desire to go to the World Cup with Germany.

"Of course I am not satisfied with the number of matches that I am playing right now. However, I feel good, physically, and I have shown in the games that I have been afforded that the coach can depend on me."

Areola is expected to be reinstalled as goalkeeper for the Ligue 1 clash at home to Montpellier this weekend. But Trapp should get another outing next week away at Rennes in the Coupe de la Ligue and then away at Sochaux in the Coupe de France in early February.
