Smalling signs new Man United contract through to 2022

Chris Smalling has put pen to paper on a new three-and-a-half year contract with Manchester United.

Smalling, 29, joined United from Fulham in 2010 and has made 307 appearances for the club, scoring 18 goals.

He has penned a new deal through to the summer of 2022, with the option of an additional year.

"This is my ninth season with the club and I am delighted to be continuing my progression with this team," he told the club's official website. "It is a real honour to play for Manchester United and we are all now concentrating on the busy schedule of games throughout the festive period."

Manager Jose Mourinho added: "I am very happy Chris has signed a new contract. Chris has been with the club for a number of years and is now one of the senior players within our squad."

Luke Shaw recently put pen to paper on a new deal, while ESPN FC sources have also revealed that Ashley Young, Ander Herrera and Juan Mata are in talks.
