Sabatini: Roma not selling Kevin Strootman to Manchester United

Roma's sporting director Walter Sabatini has told Manchester United that Kevin Strootman is not for sale.

United manager Louis van Gaal is an admirer of the midfielder, who played for him in the Netherlands national team, and admitted in the summer that he is interested in the 24-year-old.But Roma coach Rudi Garcia said in July that Strootman would cost 100 million euros, and now Sabatini insists the former PSV Eindhoven player is not available at all.

"I have found that all of the lavish things that are coming out are stories that are all from England," he told reporters at an awards dinner.

"There is no issue with Strootman, who is one of our important players and who we miss very much. There have been months now without him and around him we had built a style of play.

"He will return soon and he is not on the market -- we will give him the time needed to recover to return the same as before."

Strootman is currently sidelined by a knee injury which forced him to miss the summer's World Cup, but he is expected to return later this year with Van Gaal tipped to launch a January bid for his services.

The 63-year-old has already recruited one member of his former national team, Daley Blind, who is currently being deployed as United's defensive midfielder.

Garcia was asked after Tuesday's 1-1 draw against Manchester City in the Champions League if Strootman was available at any cost, though admitted he does not have the final say.

"You will have to ask the president," he replied. "I think he has already answered."
