Tottenham target Vincent Janssen ready for 'big step up' from AZ Alkmaar

AZ Alkmaar striker Vincent Janssen says he is ready for "a big step up" this summer, amid reports of interest from Tottenham Hotspur.

Janssen, 21, finished as Eredivisie top scorer with 27 goals in 34 games this season, while he has scored three times in five appearances for Netherlands, including in the 2-1 win over England at Wembley in March.

Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino attended Netherlands' 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland in Dublin last month, and reports in the English and Dutch press claim Janssen has travelled to London this week for talks with Tottenham.

And the player himself has revealed that he is ready to leave Alkmaar for a bigger club and that no clubs in Holland can afford to meet his asking price.

"I can look back on a great season -- for me to score so many goals and get in the Holland team and also to score against England at Wembley makes it the best football year of my life," Janssen is quoted as saying by the Daily Mirror.

"I am ready for a big step up. To be realistic the big Dutch clubs cannot afford me. That's not because of my wages, it's the transfer fee."

The news comes alongside Tottenham's reported interest in Palermo forward Franco Vazquez as Spurs step up their transfer activity following a third-place finish in the Premier League.
