The 29-year-old forward joined the Rossoneri from Juventus last summer, but after netting only once in 15 appearances, he was loaned out to the Viola until the end of the season.
Although he scored twice on his debut, the past five months have followed a similar trend to the first half of an underwhelming season for Matri.
"I cannot be happy with my season," Matri told Sky Sport Italia. "I know that I should and could have done better.
"Let's wait for the last game of the season, then I'll enjoy my holidays and think about how to bounce back."
Matri still has a contract with Milan until 2017, but after falling out of favour with their fans, his future will almost certainly lie elsewhere. He no longer appears to be wanted by Fiorentina either.
"It was a straight loan deal with Fiorentina so I'll be going back to the Rossoneri at the end of the season," Matri said.
"Then I'll talk to the club about the next steps. I'm really motivated, but everything still has to be discussed."
Matri is nevertheless pleased for Fiorentina and the season they have had, finishing fourth to qualify for the Europa League and losing the Coppa Italia final to Napoli 3-1.
"Finishing fourth again is significant and we played good football to get there too," added the former Italy international. "I'm sorry we lost the Coppa Italia final because we deserved to win that also."
