Eric Miller joins Colorado Rapids from Montreal Impact

The Colorado Rapids acquired defender Eric Miller in a trade with the Montreal Impact on Sunday.

Montreal will receive the Rapids' top pick in the 2018 MLS SuperDraft and general allocation in exchange for the 23-year-old.

Miller, the No. 5 pick in the 2014 draft, played two seasons at right-back with the Impact.

"Eric is a rising young player in our league and with the U.S. national team program," Rapids director Paul Bravo said in a statement.

"He will bring added quality and competition to our backline. We are delighted to welcome him to the club."

Miller joined the United States national team training camp for the first time last month, though he has yet to earn a cap. He will help the U.S. under-23 team attempt to qualify for the Olympics this year.

The move comes one day after the Impact signed Harry Shipp from the Chicago Fire for general and targeted allocation money.
