Ron-Robert Zieler admits Hannover 'need a miracle' to avoid relegation

Germany international Ron-Robert Zieler has admitted Hannover 96 "need a miracle" to stay in Bundesliga.

The keeper has a €3.5 million release clause in his contract should his side fail to avoid the drop, and has been linked with Manchester City.

Zieler, 27, has played in the last 168 Bundesliga matches for Hannover 96, and has made a total of 177 appearances for the club.

However, following Saturday's 2-0 home defeat to Cologne, it is unlikely that the 2014 World Cup winner with Germany will add many more games to his total.

Hannover 96 have only picked up 17 points from 26 matches, and trail Werder Bremen, the first club above the drop zone by 10 points, and Frankfurt in the relegation play-off place by seven points.

From their last 12 matches, Hannover have picked up only three points: A 2-1 win at Stuttgart on matchday 23, and with only eight games left to be played, Zieler has told kicker that "we'd need a miracle to avoid relegation."

He said: "The way the team presents itself is just annoying. I do believe that the lads give it their all, but we can't flip the switch."

In mid-February sources told ESPN FC that Pep Guardiola is interested in signing the Germany international for his new club Manchester City, which would be an interesting move after spending five years in Manchester, for United.

Kicker said that alongside Manchester City, FC Cologne and RB Leipzig are interested in signing the 27-year-old.
