Former Chelsea left-back Abdul Rahman Baba has said coach Antonio Conte told him he could leave on loan because his playing style is too attacking.
Rahman, 22, joined Bundesliga club Schalke on a one-year loan deal this summer, with the deal finalised on Tuesday.
He told local paper Ruhr Nachrichten: "Antonio Conte advised me to leave the club on loan.
"He told me that he wants to implement a defensive philosophy -- I'm an attack-minded player and wouldn't have featured in many games."
The left-back joined Chelsea from Augsburg for €20 million in 2015 and made 23 appearances last season.
He will be reunited with his former Augsburg coach Markus Weinzierl at Schalke and said: "He showed me a lot of trust. It is another reason why Schalke was the best option for me."
At Schalke, he will face competition from Sead Kolasinac and Dennis Aogo, and sporting director Christian Heidel said: "We have to have at least two options for every position on the field.
"Competition is vital -- and the new signings don't have 'regular starter' printed on their shirts."
