Jose Fonte calm on Southampton contract after Manchester United talk

Southampton defender Jose Fonte has said nothing has been agreed over a new contract following summer transfer links with Manchester United.

Club sources told ESPN FC that United had informal talks with Southampton over a deal for centre-back Fonte, but a switch failed to come to fruition before the transfer window closed.

The Portugal international, whose current deal expires in 2018, said in the Daily Mirror: "There's nothing on the table, so I'm waiting. I'll see what happens. I'm just focusing on performing and we'll see what happens.

"We haven't agreed anything, it's just talks."

The Daily Mirror reports that Southampton are looking to tie Fonte down on a £70,000-a-week deal.

Fonte signed for the Saints from Crystal Palace in 2010 and has since made 248 league appearances.
