Darmstadt sign Seattle Sounders' Joevin Jones to contract for 2018

Joevin Jones will leave the Seattle Sounders after the MLS season to join Darmstadt, the German second-division club announced on Sunday.

The 25-year-old Trinidad and Tobago international will move in January 2018 after signing a contract that runs until June 2020, Darmstadt said.

"I am very happy about the opportunity to prove myself at Darmstadt 98. It is a big step in my career, which I absolutely want to make use of, and I can not wait to get going in Darmstadt and the club to achieve its goals to help," Jones said.

Darmstadt manager Torsten Frings said he can't wait to begin working with Jones, who's been capped 62 times by his country already.

"We are very happy that Joevin has chosen the Lilies," Frings said.

"He was an absolute favorite of ours, who we would rather have in our team today than tomorrow and will help us immediately after his arrival."

Jones has participated in 21 league games for the Sounders this season, scoring one goal and providing an impressive seven assists.

Jones has previously played for the Chicago Fire, Trinidad and Tobago side W Connection and Finland's HJK Helsinki.
