The New England Revolution completed the signing of Hungary international Krisztian Nemeth on Thursday.
Nemeth, 28, had been with Qatari club Al-Gharafa after securing a transfer from Sporting Kansas City in 2016. But Nemeth has wanted out of Qatar for some time, and after some wrangling was released from his contract.
In order to return to MLS, Nemeth was subject to the league's allocation order. To acquire the top spot, the Revs executed a deal with Columbus Crew SC whereby they secured Nemeth's MLS rights in exchange for $400,000 in allocation money.
The money is split evenly between targeted and general allocation money, and Columbus also gets an international roster spot in the deal.
"We are pleased to have acquired Krisztian and look forward to him making an impact this season," said Revolution general manager Michael Burns. "Krisztian is a proven goal scorer in this league and abroad. We believe the leadership and experience he brings to New England will make him an immediate asset."

The Kansas City Star reported last month that Sporting KC had attempted to acquire Nemeth's rights in the trade that sent Dom Dwyer to Orlando City, but that part of the deal fell through.
The move creates something of a logjam for the Revs in terms of attacking players. New England already has Kelyn Rowe, Diego Fagundez and Lee Nguyen on its books, as well as versatile forward Juan Agudelo, who has been used in a midfield role at times with the Revs as well.
Nemeth does give New England an attacker who not only can score goals, but can set them up as well. During his lone season in Kansas City the Hungarian recorded 10 goals and six assists in 28 league appearances, 23 of them starts.
Nemeth started his career with MTK Budapest, and has since had stops with Liverpool, Blackpool, AEK Athens, Olympiakos, RKC Waalwijk, and Roda JC. With Al-Gharafa Nemeth tallied 13 times in 26 appearances.
At international level, Nemeth has made 30 appearances for Hungary, scoring three goals.
