Colorado Rapids acquire Giles Barnes from Liga MX's Leon

The Colorado Rapids have acquired Jamaica international forward Giles Barnes from Liga MX side Leon, the club announced on Friday.

The duration of the deal for the 29-year-old former West Brom man will be six months, with the MLS side holding a club option for 2019.

"Giles is an experienced and creative forward who will provide depth for us at the striker position," said Rapids general manager Padraig Smith.

"We look forward to seeing what he can accomplish in the burgundy and blue."

Barnes is no stranger to MLS, having made stops in Houston, Vancouver and Orlando after moving to the league from Doncaster Rovers in the summer of 2012.

The London-born Giles only joined Leon in January and did not feature for the club at any point.

"I'm very grateful for the opportunity being given to me by the Rapids front office and technical staff," said Barnes, who's scored three goals in 19 appearances for his country.

"There's a lot of quality on this roster and hopefully I can come in and contribute immediately as we kick off the second half of the season."
