Matt Kuchar apparently doesn't know much about the internet, but he unwittingly attempted to blow it up Monday by suggesting that Tiger Woods should be the final at-large pick by captain Davis Love III for the U.S. Ryder Cup team.
Speaking via Skype -- which he had trouble with, saying he had to go to the "World Wide Web'' to figure it out -- Kuchar was part of a news conference in which he was named one of three at-large picks for the Ryder Cup, which will be played Sept. 30-Oct. 2. Love also chose Rickie Fowler and J.B. Holmes.
"This may be hearsay, but I've heard that Tiger Woods could even get that last captain's pick,'' Kuchar said. "That would be legendary.''
Laughter filled the room at Hazeltine National in Chaska, Minnesota, site of the Ryder Cup, as Kuchar grinned.
Love has one more pick on Sept. 25 after the final round of the Tour Championship. He has praised Woods for his involvement and work as a vice captain.
Woods has not played in more than a year after multiple back surgeries. He just announced last week that he is hoping to return for the Safeway Open next month, a fact that Kuchar noted.
"Can you imagine Tiger as a playing captain?'' Kuchar said. "That would be incredible. Just saying.''
We think he was kidding.
