Never mind being one of the country's best young skateboarders, Nyjah Huston is on top of the skateboarding world.
The Davis, Calif., native put himself on the radar by winning the Tampa Am as a 10-year-old, the youngest-ever winner of the famous event. The next year, Tony Hawk put him in the video game Project 8 -- the first of Huston's four video game appearances. Huston took home his first X Games medal in 2009 with a second-place showing in Street. He repeated that performance in 2010 before breaking through and winning gold last year.
But it's Rob Dyrdek's Street League competition on ESPN in which Huston has really shined. He won the overall series title in 2010, and then he took it up a notch by sweeping the three regular season event titles last year. In seven Street League appearances, he has never finished worse than third, and he's pocketed more than $700,000 in the process.
The homeschooled 17-year-old hasn't just been focused on owning the competition circuit, though. Throughout 2011, Huston was filmed on freestyle street shoots for the video "Rise & Shine," which was released Nov. 11 on iTunes to rave reviews.
Additionally, he is sponsored by Element skateboards and DC shoes. Add it all up, and Huston is emerging as the face of the sport.
