George Washington men's basketball coach Jamion Christian out after 3 seasons

George Washington men's basketball head coach Jamion Christian is out after three seasons.

Christian had been with the Colonials for three seasons, going 29-50 during that span. They had their best Atlantic 10 campaign this season, going 8-9 in the league before bowing out to UMass in the conference tournament.

"This is a challenging day, as Jamion has faced significant adversity in his three years with us, and his relentless optimism and positivity was a source of energy on dark days,'' GW athletic director Tanya Vogel said.

Prior to being hired at GW, Christian spent one season at Siena and six seasons at Mount St. Mary's Mountaineers. Christian, who played his college ball at Mount St. Mary's, led the Mountaineers to two NCAA tournaments during his time as a coach, and won a regular-season championship in 2017.

Christian comes from the Shaka Smart coaching tree after spending one season under him at VCU in 2011-12. He was also an assistant coach at William & Mary for three years.

This will be George Washington's third head-coaching search in the past six years, after Maurice Joseph and Christian spent three years apiece in the nation's capital. The Atlantic 10 also now has three head coaching vacancies, with GW following UMass and Rhode Island.
