BOSTON -- Red Sox infielders Eduardo Nunez and Mookie Betts were removed from Monday night's game against Toronto because of injuries.
Nunez aggravated a right knee injury in the third inning and Betts left in the eighth with a left wrist injury. Boston lost 6-4.
Betts will be examined Tuesday to determine the scope of an injury that he said has caused "a sharp pain" when he swings a bat.
"I just know occasionally on some swings it just -- I don't know whether I turn it. I don't know what happens," Betts told reporters. "Just like a sharp pain. I can't really move my hand for a little bit. ... It just came up kind of a couple days ago. I think it will be fine."
Red Sox manager John Farrell said Nunez is day-to-day and he doesn't have a clear indication when Nunez will be available next.
Boston acquired Nunez from the San Francisco Giants in late July. He missed 13 games this season with an injury to his right knee.
Nunez is batting .321 with eight home runs and 27 RBIs with Boston. Betts is batting .265 with 46 doubles, 23 home runs, 98 runs scored, 101 RBIs, 24 stolen bases and an .800 OPS.
