Reliever Sam Tuivailala was placed on the 10-day disabled list by the Seattle Mariners on Thursday, a day after he strained his right Achilles tendon trying to execute a rundown against the Rangers.
Tuivailala was trying to chase down Rougned Odor in a rundown between home and third. He tossed the ball to catcher Mike Zunino, then fell to the ground and wasn't putting any weight on his leg as he was helped off the field.
Tuivailala was just one of a series of roster moves the Mariners made on Thursday. The team optioned right-handed reliever Chasen Bradford to Triple-A Tacoma and recalled right-handers Casey Lawrence and Nick Rumbelow.
Tuivailala was injured in his fifth appearance with the Mariners after being acquired from the St. Louis Cardinals in a trade on July 27. He's allowed one run and six hits in 5 1/3 innings for Seattle.
He has a 3.41 ERA in 36 combined games with St. Louis and Seattle.
