Brandon McCarthy joins Rangers as special assistant to GM

The Texas Rangers named former major league pitcher Brandon McCarthy a special assistant to general manager Jon Daniels on Tuesday.

The Rangers say the 35-year-old McCarthy will be involved in all aspects of pitching development at the major and minor league levels.

McCarthy, who was with the Braves in 2018, retired after last season, ending a 13-year career that was plagued by injuries.

He was 69-75 with a 4.20 ERA in his career.

The Rangers also made a minor trade on Tuesday, sending infielder/outfielder Drew Robinson to the St. Louis Cardinals for infielder Patrick Wisdom.
