Detroit Tigers starting center fielder JaCoby Jones is expected to start the season on the injured list after spraining his shoulder on Saturday, manager Ron Gardenhire announced.
Jones sustained the injury diving for a ball in the Tigers' game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Jones was undergoing an MRI, Gardenhire told reporters.
"He's got a sprain in the AC joint which means he's going to be out for a little while," Gardenhire told reporters, according to mlive.com. "These things don't heal very quick."
Mikie Mahtook and Niko Goodrum are the likely options to play center field while Jones is sidelined.
