This wasn't your typical All-Star break for Major League Baseball. It had been two years since the last Midsummer Classic, so baseball fans had plenty to celebrate during three action-packed days in Denver.
The 2021 MLB All-Star Game took place Tuesday night at Coors Field after a decision to move the event from Atlanta this spring. The American League defeated the National League 5-2 -- the eighth straight victory for the Junior Circuit.
After being canceled because of the COVID-19 pandemic and shortened Major League Baseball season in 2020, the festivities returned starting with the Futures Game on Sunday, the Home Run Derby on Monday, and concluded with the All-Star Game. The 2021 MLB draft also brought its share of memorable picks as baseball teams looked toward the future as they celebrated the present.
In Monday's Home Run Derby, the Angels' two-way sensation Shohei Ohtani lost an epic first-round battle with Washington's Juan Soto, while Mets slugger Pete Alonso took home his second straight Derby title (and a $1 million prize that's significantly higher than his yearly salary) by beating Baltimore's Trey Mancini in the final.
