The New York Yankees claimed Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Taylor Trammell off waivers on Thursday.
Trammell had gotten into just five major league games in his first season with the Dodgers and went 0-for-6 with three strikeouts before being designated for assignment on Tuesday.
Trammell, 26, broke into the big leagues in 2021 with the Seattle Mariners and played parts of three seasons for them. Once a first-round draft pick of the Cincinnati Reds in 2016, Trammell has batted just .165 with 15 home runs and 39 RBIs in 121 games for Seattle (2021-23) and Los Angeles.
To make room for Trammell on the 40-man roster, the Yankees designated infielder Kevin Smith for assignment. New York signed Smith, 27, last winter but he has appeared in just one game in 2024 without a plate appearance.
