Yankees spoil Home Run Derby for Marlins

Boos don't faze Gary Sanchez or Aaron Judge.

The New York Yankees sluggers weren't greeted warmly by the crowd at Marlins Park for Monday's Home Run Derby, as they were set to square off against Miami's Giancarlo Stanton and Justin Bour. But the Baby Boomers smashed their way into the semifinals after epic showdowns with the hometown participants -- and baseball Twitter was there for the excitement.

Gary Sanchez vs. Giancarlo Stanton

Stanton started off slow and later found a groove, but the hometown favorite's comeback came up short. The Miami Marlins star was eliminated from the Derby after falling just one homer shy of Sanchez's 17 dingers.

The Yankees congratulated their catcher on advancing and offered some not-so-subtle references to Logan Morrison's comment that he should have been in the Derby over Sanchez. Sanchez's fellow Yankees gave him some shoutouts as well.

The Marlins recognized Stanton's efforts, which included a 496-foot blast.

Others, including the American League All-Stars, got a thrill out of just watching the two sluggers.

Aaron Judge vs. Justin Bour

With Stanton out, Bour was the Marlins' lone hope to win the Derby. But hitting 22 home runs is no sure bet to advance when you're facing off against the majors' long ball leader.

Judge rose to the occasion, and Twitter had a verdict: The rookie is unreal.

Before Judge took his swings, though, Bour came out to play. Christian Yelich, who dubbed Bour as the Derby's dark horse before it started, even offered a tribute to the first baseman's doughnut break.

And who says baseball isn't exciting?
