Jimi Manuwa to fight Volkan Oezdemir on UFC 214 undercard

The UFC has added a light heavyweight fight between Jimi Manuwa and Volkan Oezdemir to UFC 214 on July 29 in Anaheim, California.

Officials announced the 205-pound bout on Wednesday. A light heavyweight championship fight between Daniel Cormier (19-1) and Jon Jones (22-1) is scheduled to headline the pay-per-view, which will take place at Honda Center.

UFC president Dana White had stated previously he wanted to book Manuwa (17-2) to the card, in case something were to happen to the main event.

The last time the UFC booked a fight between Cormier and Jones, it was to headline UFC 200 last July. Jones was pulled from the event several days before due to a doping violation. Afterward, White said he would no longer trust Jones in a main event.

Ultimately, White changed his mind, but has now booked Manuwa as insurance. Fighting out of London, Manuwa has placed himself in title contention with back-to-back knockout wins over Ovince Saint Preux and Corey Anderson.

Oezdemir (14-1) is just three days removed from a stunning first-round knockout over highly touted prospect Misha Cirkunov. Oezdemir finished Cirkunov at last weekend's UFC Fight Night event in Stockholm in just 28 seconds.

The 27-year-old Swiss light heavyweight is 2-0 in the UFC and riding a four-fight win streak overall.
