Veteran Josh Barnett will face Nandor Guelmino in a Strikeforce heavyweight bout Jan. 12 in Oklahoma City, a source confirmed to ESPN on Thursday.
Barnett's appearance will help the card regain some of the luster it lost recently when lightweight champion Gilbert Melendez and middleweight titleholder Luke Rockhold pulled out of their respective title defenses due to injuries.
Melendez was slated to face Pat Healy, while Rockhold had a date with Lorenz Larkin.
Barnett (31-6) looks to rebound from a unanimous decision loss against Daniel Cormier in the Strikeforce Heavyweight Grand Prix Final on May 19.
Guelmino has never fought under the Strikeforce banner. He has a professional record of 11-3 and has won seven fights in a row.
The future of Strikeforce remains in limbo. There are rumblings that the promotion will go out of business after its Jan. 12 event.
MMAJunkie.com reported the Barnett-Guelmino bout earlier on Thursday.
