Bryant, who was killed in a helicopter crash Jan. 26 along with his daughter Gianna and seven others, was part of the Oscars' In Memoriam segment.
Bryant won an Academy Award in 2018 for best animated short film for "Dear Basketball."
Lee, who won his first Oscar last year for best adapted screenplay, presented the award for best director during the ceremony at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles.
