Phoenix Suns guard Landry Shamet has agreed to a four-year, $43 million rookie contract extension, his agent, George Langberg, told ESPN on Monday.
The extension delivers Shamet security on a long-term deal in his fourth stop in three-plus NBA seasons, affirming the Suns' belief he will play a significant role for the defending Western Conference champions.
Shamet arrived in a draft-night trade with the Brooklyn Nets, a deal of which Suns coach Monty Williams had been a huge proponent. Williams was an assistant with the Philadelphia 76ers in 2018, when the Sixers drafted Shamet 24th overall.
Shamet is the second Suns player to have an extension completed ahead of Monday's 6 p.m. ET deadline for members of the 2018 NBA draft class. He joins forward Mikal Bridges, who agreed to a four-year, $90 million extension earlier Sunday. The Suns' contract talks with Deandre Ayton, the No. 1 overall pick in 2018, ended Monday without a deal, according to sources.
Shamet was traded to the LA Clippers in his rookie season in the deal that sent Tobias Harris to the Sixers. He was then traded to the Nets before the 2020-2021 season.
Shamet averaged 9.2 points on 41.6% shooting from the floor and 39.7% from 3-point range in his three seasons since coming out of Wichita State.
