For the Jon Gruden QB Camp series, we wanted Insiders to see a little more. So we dispatched ESPN.com NFC South blogger Pat Yasinskas to Tampa, Fla., to sit in with the coach and squeeze out a little more insight. This is the result.
We see NFL draft stock shift from year to year all the time. Matt Barkley might have been a top-5 pick last year and might go in the early second round this year. People might want to call it something different, but that isn't shocking. Not at all.
But Tyler Bray? This is something different altogether.
This is a guy who, a year ago, we all thought might be a lock for Round 1 this April. Instead, NFL people continue to tell me they don't question the talent, but they don't know if Bray is capable of honing it, of focusing on the preparation. They know he can be good, because he's a good QB when he rolls out of bed. They don't know if he can be great. So a week before the draft, many see him as a midround prospect.
The question is whether the talent outweighs the worry that it'll always just be talent, never a real craft.
