NFL investigating Jaguars' Dante Fowler Jr. for video of women fighting

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The NFL and the Jacksonville Jaguars are looking into a video that surfaced on TMZ.com showing a fight between two women connected to defensive end Dante Fowler Jr.

TMZ Sports says the 28-second video depicts a fight between Fowler's girlfriend and the mother of his child at around 10 p.m. ET on Feb. 1. In the video, it appears that Fowler makes no attempt to keep the women from fighting and at one point seems to act as almost a referee.

"These are disturbing images, and we will review the matter," NFL spokesman Brian McCarthy said.

The Jaguars also released a statement Tuesday that said they were investigating the incident.

"Dante brought the incident to our attention prior to the video being released and was embarrassed and remorseful," the statement said. "Violence of this type against others is unacceptable in our society and to our organization. We will continue to look into the incident while offering resources and providing support to Dante and his family to help them through this private matter."

Fowler also released the following statement:

"I am embarrassed and have apologized for my actions to everyone involved," he said. "As a family, we have been dealing with this moment and the conflict that led to it since this occurred. The video surfacing is a sad reminder that emotions got the best of all of us. I take 100 percent responsibility for everything that happened."

Fowler, 21, was the No. 3 overall pick in the 2015 NFL draft but suffered a torn left ACL on the first day of rookie minicamp and missed the entire season. Less than a week after the injury, the Jaguars gave Fowler a four-year, fully guaranteed contract worth $23.5 million.
