The Los Angeles Rams have waived rookie kicker Samuel Sloman, the team announced.
Expected to take over is veteran kicker Kai Forbath, whom the Rams signed last Tuesday. Because of COVID-19 protocols, he did not report to the facility until Sunday and was inactive for a Week 7 victory over the Chicago Bears on Monday night.
A seventh-round pick from Miami (Ohio), Sloman won the starting job out of training camp after competing against CFL kicker Lirim Hajrullahu and former XFL kicker Austin MacGinnis, but he struggled to find consistency.
After a 24-16 loss to the San Francisco 49ers in Week 6, Rams coach Sean McVay said Sloman's "got to improve," while pointing out a missed extra point and poor placement on a kickoff late in the game.
Sloman converted 8-of-11 (72%) field goal attempts, which ranks 27th in the NFL and he made 18-of-21 (85.7%) extra point attempts, which ranks 31st.
The Rams are 5-2 and play the 3-3 Miami Dolphins on Sunday at Hard Rock Stadium.
