Baker Mayfield drive in Rams-Raiders TNF ignites Twitter

Baker Mayfield is back.

The brand-new Los Angeles Rams quarterback, fresh from his mutual release from the Carolina Panthers, was on the bench to begin Thursday night's game against the Las Vegas Raiders. He replaced John Wolford in the game's second series. Going into the fourth quarter, however, the Rams had yet to score a touchdown, and it looked like Mayfield's debut for Los Angeles was going to end ignominiously.

That all changed in the last few minutes of the game. First, Mayfield led the team downfield for a Cam Akers rush touchdown. A quick three and out got the Rams the ball back, and then Mayfield did it again. An interception and a sack were both turned over on penalties, and then a deep completion to Ben Skowronek gave the Rams new life. Mayfield then completed a 23-yard pass to Van Jefferson for the game-winning touchdown.

Mayfield even had one of his celebratory no-helmet headbutts to mark the occasion.

Reaction on NFL Twitter was swift and appreciative for the former Heisman Trophy winner.
