Flyers' Nick Seeler placed on IR, to miss at least 2 games

The Philadelphia Flyers placed defenseman Nick Seeler on injured reserve Wednesday.

Seeler, who took a puck off his left ankle/foot in the second period of Monday's shootout loss to the St. Louis Blues, will be sidelined for a minimum of seven days and will miss at least two games.

Seeler, 30, has 1 goal, 11 assists, a plus-15 rating and 78 penalty minutes in 63 games this season. He leads the Flyers in blocked shots (184) and ranks fourth in hits (112).

Seeler's name has surfaced ahead of this Friday's trade deadline, although head coach John Tortorella said Saturday that the team is "not looking to trade Seels."

"He's a huge part of the competitiveness of the room, that brings that room together," Tortorella said. "He's one of the true competitors that I've ever coached as far as how he handles himself."

TSN reported Wednesday that the Flyers are making progress on a contract extension with Seeler, who is in the final season of a two-year, $1.55 million contract signed with Philadelphia in May 2022.

Seeler has recorded 41 points (eight goals, 33 assists) in 288 games with the Minnesota Wild, Chicago Blackhawks and Flyers.

Also on Wednesday, the Flyers recalled defenseman Adam Ginning from Lehigh Valley of the American Hockey League.
