Tyler Seguin scores his ninth goal of the season to give the Stars an early lead. (0:47)

Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin will undergo hip surgery Thursday and is expected to miss four to six months.

The team announced that the surgery will repair a left-side femoral acetabular infringement and left-side hip labrum and be performed at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York.

Seguin, 32, was placed on injured reserve. He has missed five games this season with lower-body issues.

It's a tough blow for the Stars, who are third in the Central division. Seguin was off to a hot start with 9 goals and 20 points in 19 games. That put him well ahead of last season's pace when he finished with 52 points in 68 games.
