St George Illawarra Dragons have announced the signing of Clint Gutherson on a three-year deal.
Gutherson was recently advised by the Parramatta Eels that he was free to negotiate with other clubs with an immediate release, despite having one year remaining on his contract.
The Dragons were quick to snap up the veteran fullback as they re-work their roster following the similar departure of star halfback Ben Hunt.
Gutherson spent nine years at the Eels, during which time he played in four State of Origin games, four finals series, and the 2022 Grand Final. He has played 211 NRL games at fullback, wing, centre and five-eighth for the Eels and Sea Eagles, crossing for 100 tries and kicking 152 goals.
"Clint will be a fantastic addition to our squad over the next three seasons," said Dragons coach Shane Flanagan.
"He is not just an elite fullback; he also brings leadership, competitiveness, toughness and versatility. In addition to his obvious on-field qualities he will also be a huge asset to our emerging players over the coming years."
Gutherson was keen for a change and looking forward to the challenges ahead.
"I feel really excited and honoured to be able to come here and put this jersey on and have that badge on my chest," Gutherson said.
"The rich history that this club has is second to none... The direction the club went in this year and where Flano and the staff are taking the club is something I want to be a part of.
"I think I can offer a lot to where we're trying to go over the next few years. I'm looking forward to the challenge and what lies ahead."
