India had mixed fortunes on Sunday at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics. Even though they failed to add to their medal tally, MC Mary Kom and PV Sindhu made a winning start. While Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina were knocked out in the opening round, Manika Batra made a rousing comeback to become the first Indian to win two women's singles matches in table tennis at the Olympics. Meanwhile, the men's hockey team suffered a big loss against heavyweights Australia in Pool A.

Hockey (Men's)
India suffered their biggest ever loss at the Olympics after a 7-1 defeat against heavyweights Australia. India had beaten New Zealand 3-2 in their first game.
Boxing (women's flyweight, round of 32 preliminaries)
Mary Kom beat Miguelina Hernandez Garcia of Dominican Republic 4-1.
Boxing (Men's lightweight)
Manish Kaushik lost 4-1 to Luke McCormack in the round-of-32.
Badminton
PV Sindhu began her quest for a second Olympic medal with a comfortable 21-7, 21-10 win in the group stage over Ksenia Polikarpova of Israel.
Table tennis (Women's singles second round)
Manika Batra beat Ukraine's Margaryta Pesotska in seven games.
Table tennis (Men's singles, second round)
Sathiyan Gnanasekaran lost in seven games to Hong Kong's Lam Siu Hang.
Tennis
Sania Mirza and Ankita Raina lost 6-0, 6-7 (0), 8-10 to Nadiia and Liudmyla Kichenok of Ukraine. The Indian served for the match before being broken and lost a lopsided tiebreak. In the super tiebreak, they came back from 7-1 down to make it 8-8, but lost the next two points to lose the match.
Shooting (Men's Skeet Shotgun qualification, Day 1)
Angad Vir Singh Bajwa and Mairaj Ahmad Khan finished 11th and 25th, respectively, on Day 1 of qualification. Day 2 and the final are on Monday, July 26.
Shooting (Women's 10m Air Pistol)
Manu Bhaker and Yashaswini Singh Deswal failed to make the final, finishing 12th and 13th, respectively, in qualification.

Shooting (Men's 10m Air Rifle)
Deepak Kumar and Divyansh Singh Panwar failed to make the final, finishing 26th and 32nd, respectively, in qualification.
Men's lightweight double sculls
Arjun Lal and Arvind Singh have qualified for Semifinal A/B after finishing third in the repechage round.
Sailing (Women's individual laser radial)
Nethra Kumanan 27th overall after two races (out of 10).
Sailing (Men's one person dinghy - laser Race 2)
Vishnu Saravanan's Race 2 was postponed due to poor weather. He finished 14th in Race 1.
Artistic gymnastics
Pranati Nayak finished with a total score of 42.565 across vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor and did not progress to the final.
Swimming
Srihari Nataraj became the first Indian swimmer to swim in a classification A heat. He recorded a time of 54.31s to finish 27th in the men's 100m backstroke event.
Maana Patel, making her Olympic debut, finished with a time of 1:05.20 in women's 100m backstroke. She finished second of three in the classification B heat and could not progress.
