Liberty's Sabrina Ionescu traveling to New York to see specialist about ankle injury

New York Liberty rookie guard Sabrina Ionescu, who has a Grade 3 left ankle sprain, is traveling to New York on Wednesday to see an ankle and foot specialist.

Ionescu exited Friday's game against the Atlanta Dream in the second quarter after she stepped on the foot of Atlanta's Betnijah Laney while bringing the ball upcourt.

The Liberty said earlier this week that doctors believed Ionescu would not require surgery. A Grade 3 sprain is a full tear of the ankle ligament and usually requires months to fully heal.

If Ionescu returns to the IMG bubble, she will again have to go through quarantine in her room for at least four days.

The Liberty (0-4) next play against Minnesota (3-1) at 7 p.m. ET Wednesday.
